Green Flag Award
Context
The Green Flag Award Scheme is the benchmark national standard for parks and green spaces in England, Wales and Scotland. The scheme is administered the Green Flag Plus Partnership namely: Keep Britain Tidy, BTCV and GreenSpace.The Scheme welcomes applications from a variety of organisations such as: Local authorities (including Parish Councils), Grounds Maintenance contractors, Voluntary groups, Charities and Trusts. Applications are accepted for a variety of green spaces such as: Urban and country parks, Public gardens, Greenways, Allotment sites, and Nature reserves. The quality of the open spaces is linked to the usage and associated benefits such as health and wellbeing, safer communities, improved wildlife and heritage, community cohesion etc.
Support
GSEM has been an active supporter of these awards since October 2009 having: organised open meetings and demonstration days; produced reports such as regional statistics and frequently asked questions; promoted national support in the Mentoring Scheme and BTCV green pennant champion as well as acting as a conduit of information to and from the scheme administrators and advocate for the scheme at meetings such as EMRAF High Quality Environment sub group.Forthcoming events
