About IPGS

IPGS is the UK’s only institute solely dedicated to parks and green spaces and related issues.

IPGS will advance the sustainable management and maintenance of parks and green spaces by promoting excellence in the profession and developing partnerships with others to help deliver its aims and objectives.

Shaping and influencing national, regional and local policy

IPGS will work in partnership on behalf of its members to present a unified voice for the sector and provide direct and timely responses to policies affecting parks and green spaces.

It will advocate the value and importance of high quality green space to government and other key decision makers and encourage members to engage in policy development and responses.

Identifying and promoting good practice

IPGS will establish an information exchange, through the development of its regional forums and other partnerships and networks, both nationally and internationally, to enable the identification and sharing of good practice amongst members.

Improving education and training to create skilled professionals

IPGS recognises that the training needs of those working in the parks and green space sector are constantly evolving.

To ensure that it is offering what its members need, it will define the framework of skills required of a modern park and green space professional and encourage continuing professional development (CPD) through attendance at its training courses and conferences and those of associated training providers.

IPGS is working towards attaining chartered status and, through GreenSKILL, will provide a unique online system for monitoring and recording the CPD of all its members.

Promoting working in the sector as an attractive career option

IPGS will work to create a positive public perception of the sector and promote the wide range of careers available to encourage take-up of relevant careers by young people and other under-represented groups.

It will work with employers and training providers to ensure that there is adequate provision of quality, sustainable training and apprenticeship schemes.
