Rufford Country Park
Newark, Nottinghamshire
Visitor surveys revealed the need to provide some sort of merchandising operation at the park. Also, there was a real need to showcase some of the excellent work being carried by local craftsmen. In order to achieve both objectives, Rufford Country Park stepped up their retailing operation in 1997. Due to the high proportion of repeat visits the park has to ensure that visitor spend per head was high. To do this they refitted their shops to reflect the quality of goods on offer. In total, Rufford Country Park manages four retail operations: a gift shop, a craft shop an outdoor living store and the lakeside garden shop. Retail development has made a big impact to the park, creating a vital and valuable income.
