GreenSpace South East launches online forum

A new internet forum to help local authorities and green space organisations in the south east to interact with each other has been launched.

The GreenSpace South East Online Forum is designed to allow local authorities and other parties with an interest in the management of the region’s parks and green spaces to discuss management approaches to the issues affecting parks and green space. Visit the forum here.

Over 35 local authorities and green space organisations have already registered with the forum, which is overseen by GreenSpace South East forum manager Michelle Parker.
IPGS launches website

The Institute of Parks and Green Spaces (IPGS) has launched a brand new website that will enable it to keep members fully up to date with its development and activities. The site contains a wealth of information, including membership details, news from the sector, upcoming training courses and policy position statements, which are constantly being updated.

IPGS is the UK’s only institute solely dedicated to parks and green spaces and related issues. It aims to advance the sustainable management and maintenance of parks and green spaces by promoting excellence in the profession and developing partnerships with others to help deliver its aims and objectives.

New Regional Manager for South East Forum

Michelle Parker has been appointed as the new GreenSpace South East Forum Manager:

"As a sector we face challenges including housing growth targets, skill shortages, increasing demand for high quality public open spaces and climate change; all of which compete for already lean budgets. GreenSpace is committed to increasing regional capacity to deal with these and future issues. Our aim is to influence policy, share best practice and promote high standards across the South East.

"Becoming a Regional Member of GreenSpace will ensure that your views are heard at central government level. I would like to encourage all of you to get involved. Our website is regularly updated with events and news from the region.  If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me at mparker@green-space.org.uk or 07898 870859. I look forward to working with you all in the future to keep improving our public space."
Sub-Regional Meeting Dates

To effectively work together to influence policy, GreenSpace South East is split into sub-regions; Bucks, Berks and Oxon, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire and Kent. These forums discuss best practice and current policies and issues as a learning exchange. The sub-regions feed into the regional forum in order to influence policy and highlight challenges facing the sector.

Sub-regional meetings are held quarterly and we encourage all local authorities to attend these groups. For details such as meeting dates please contact Michelle Parker on mparker@green-space.org.uk or 07898 870859.
